This self-catering guest cottage is situated on the Keurbosfontein farmyard. As this is the only guest cottage on the farm, our visitors can enjoy peace and quiet. You do not have to share any facilities and space with other tourists. Keurbosfontein is a historic farm which nestles in the beautiful Red Cederberg. The main farmhouse, which is almost 200 years old, was carefully restored, as well as all the other old buildings on the farmstead. Many of the traditions of the region are still in practice here and the farm has an old-world feel. Electricity is not utilized - by choice. Here you find old pear, almond, fig and oak trees, some of which are more than 150 years old. The greater part of the farm’s original water furrow is still in everyday use. Only organic products are produced. ...continue below
All the farming and maintenance at Keurbosfontein is done exclusively by local workers. The craftsmen are from the Wupperthal missionary. It is important to us that the benefits of our endeavours stay within our communities. Keurbosfontein is within easy reach of a variety of Cederberg activities and attractions such as river swimming, wine tasting, horse riding, San rock art, observatory star gazing, 4x4 routes, etc. Day trips (4x4 recommended) can be taken to the historic Wupperthal missionary station in the Tra-Tra valley. PLEASE NOTE: Permits for the Wolfberg Walking Trail and the Exclusive Red Cederberg Vehicle Tours are only obtainable at the Keurbosfontein farmstead. Keurbosfontein is a founding member of the Cederberg Conservancy and the Rooi Cederberg Karoo Park. We also support the Cape Leopard Trust research project. ‘n Vrou vanaf Kaapstad skryf:
(Translated into English: A woman from Cape Town writes: “I grew up on a Karoo farm, which had a water furrow. This past weekend when it was very warm, I took off my shoes and sat under the oak trees with my feet in Keurbosfontein’s cool water furrow. For a moment I felt like a kid again. Oom Arrie and his men were harvesting lucerne while we were there. Oh, how I wish I could put a little bit of that lucerne smell into a bottle and take with me to the city”).
